Victor Kgomoeswana Insists it is “The Era of Emerging Markets”

Africa Is Open For BusinessVictor Kgomoeswana, author of Africa Is Open For Business: 10 Years of Game-Changing Headlines, is confident in Africa’s growth potential.

Speaking to eNCA Africa editor Chris Maroleng, Kgomoeswana defended the title of his book, saying Africa “was never closed” for business, but “relatively speaking it wasn’t offering as good a return as it does now”.

Kgomoeswana says it is “the era of emerging markets”, and points out how, in terms of returns, Africa has been performed better than other emerging markets recently.

Maroleng points out that while Africa may be doing well in terms of sales growth and GDP, the economies are starting from a low base. But Kgomoeswana says the number of people on the continent should not be taken lightly: “Not if you look at one billion people. Even if you are selling a loaf of bread per person per week, it’s still a billion loaves. It’s not small. The only difficulty is having 54 countries, and trading across those borders is difficult. But that’s getting better, and that’s where the ‘open for business’ comes in.”
