Video: Ahmed Kathrada Gives Emotional Address at Nelson Mandela’s Funeral
Nelson Mandela’s funeral was held on Sunday in his ancestral village, Qunu. Mandela’s friend of 67 years and fellow Robben Island prisoner, Ahmed Kathrada, gave an emotional speech, in which he describes seeing Mandela for the last time.
Using the nickname they used for each other, Kathrada addresses Mandela directly, after talking about his role in the history of South Africa: “Madala, your abundant reserves of love, simplicity, honesty, service, humility, care, courage, foresight, patience, tolerance, equality and justice, continually served as a source of enormous strength to many millions of people in South Africa and the world.”
