Allon Raiz Discusses the Problem of the Can/Can’t Paradigm

What to do When You Want to Give Up“The problem with the ‘can/can’t’ paradigm is that it short-circuits the kind of creative thinking that lies behind successful entrepreneurship,” writes Allon Raiz for Entrepreneur Magazine.

Raiz, author of What to do When You Want to Give Up: Help for Entrepreneurs in Tough Times, says that while working in the entrepreneurial development environment for the last decade he has noticed “a stark difference between successful and unsuccessful entrepreneurs in terms of their attitudes towards problems that present themselves”.

Having worked in the entrepreneurial development environment for more than a decade, I’ve noticed a stark difference between successful and unsuccessful entrepreneurs in terms of their attitudes towards problems that present themselves.

In my view, unsuccessful entrepreneurs work from a paradigm of ‘things that can or can’t be done’ and ‘problems that can or can’t be fixed’. In other words, they have a binary view of whether or not any given problem can be resolved.
