Sipho Hlongwane: Shame on the Cabinet, Especially Zuma and Justice Minister Jeff Radebe

Get Me Started“It is shameful that the miners may have to rely on the kindness of their fellow citizens just because the ruling party in government, which claims to represent the poor, cannot find it within itself to release funds for them…Shame on the Cabinet, especially Zuma and Justice Minister Jeff Radebe”, writes Sipho Hlongwane in a column for Business Day.

Hlongwane is the author of one of the latest additions to The Youngsters series, Get Me Started. In this column he discusses the case of the injured and arrested miners from Lonmin’s Marikana mine, where 34 mineworkers were killed by the police last year.

On Monday, the Constitutional Court ruled not to grant a request for leave to appeal by the arrested and injured miners of Marikana, who are in the courts to force the state to pay for their legal representatives at the commission of inquiry.

The commission was established to investigate the activities of August 2012 that resulted in the deaths of 34 miners, and the injury of a further 78.
