Sue Grant-Marshall Discusses What Dawid Knew by Patricia Glyn (Plus: Podcast Interview)
Sue Grant-Marshall attended Patricia Glyn’s launch of What Dawid Knew: A Journey with the Kruipers in Johannesburg and wrote about Glyn’s decision to walk through the Kalahari, which led to her meeting Dawid Kruiper.
Kruiper told Glyn that “he needed to show his children and grandchildren their heritage back in the places that were once theirs before they were evicted from their homeland” and so Glyn changed the focus of her project.
Patricia Glyn towers above the 23 half-naked Bushmen, some holding babies, others bows and arrows, as they crowd around her on a chilly evening in the heart of Sandton. They are in Johannesburg from the Kalahari to take part in the launch of what they regard as “their” book, written by Glyn, What Dawid Knew: A Journey with the Kruipers.
The audience has just been stunned into silence on learning that these people, with a history going back 50,000 years, were able to be legally hunted as recently as 76 years ago.
Grant-Marshall also interviewed Glyn on her show Reading Matters on Radio Today:
